Mega Demolition in Rajkot, Bulldozer Action on Over 1450 Encroachments
The Rajkot Municipal Corporation has initiated a significant demolition campaign targeting over 1450 illegal structures in the Jungleeshwar area, utilizing drone surveillance for monitoring.
The Rajkot Municipal Corporation in Gujarat has embarked on a massive demolition operation aimed at clearing illegal encroachments in the Jungleeshwar area, which has been sectioned into seven zones for effective execution. This operation is being monitored with the aid of drones, and it is set to be the largest bulldozer action in the city's history. The targeted area includes over 1450 illegal homes and shops along the banks of the Aji River in wards 16 and 17, where the local administration has flagged these structures as unlawful for several years.
In preparation for the demolition, the operation has mobilized over 700 municipal employees and more than 1500 police personnel for maintaining law and order. Additional support has been called in from surrounding districts such as Morbi, Surendranagar, and Jamnagar, specifically to bolster security during the operation. The presence of personnel from the PGVCL (Power Grid Victims & Civil Liaison) and firefighters further emphasizes the scale and seriousness of the operation, as the local government seeks to enforce regulations that have been long overlooked in the area.
Over the last four to five decades, numerous illegal structures have proliferated along the banks of the Aji River, as residents and businesses ignored repeated warnings from authorities. The ongoing action on Sunday involved police patrols and preemptive measures to ensure that the demolition can proceed smoothly without any resistance from the encroachers. This demolition drive underscores the government's commitment to regulating urban development and reclaiming public spaces for future urban planning.
