64 Residents Selected for the InSong Literary Village in Dan-kkeut Village, Haenam, Jeonnam
64 writers have been selected to participate in the InSong Literary Village's residency program in Haenam, South Korea.
The InSong Literary Village located in Dan-kkeut Village, Haenam, has announced the selection of 64 writers for its residency program, allowing them to focus on their creative works without economic burdens. The selection process was competitive, with 218 applicants and 188 passing an initial document review conducted by a panel of judges comprising established writers. The selected writers will enjoy spaces equipped for various literary genres, including poetry, essays, novels, and screenwriting.
This initiative is supported in part by the South Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and aims to provide a conducive environment for writers to create. The InSong Literary Village was established in 2020 by writer Park Byeong-du, encompassing a generous area with various facilities including individual writing studios and communal spaces. To date, it has hosted 302 writers, showcasing a commitment to fostering literary talent in the region.
The selection committee's diverse expertise, featuring established figures in Korean literature, ensures that a wide range of voices and stories will be represented in this year's cohort. The residency program not only aims to nurture individual creativity but also contributes to the cultural landscape of Haenam, promoting the village as a hub for literary arts. With the backing of the ministry, the village is positioned to enhance its status as a cultural destination while supporting writers in their artistic endeavors.
