Fire in central Stockholm – young man arrested

A significant fire broke out in central Stockholm early Monday morning, leading to two individuals being hospitalized and one arrested on suspicion of arson.

Early Monday morning, a large fire erupted in a multi-family residential building in Stadshagen, Kungsholmen, in central Stockholm. The emergency services were alerted around 4:15 AM when flames were seen coming from the seventh floor of the building. Firefighter Oscar Davila noted the difficulties posed by the building's height, which complicated their efforts to contain the blaze. Two individuals were taken to the hospital, with one being a suspect in the arson case.

According to police spokesperson Daniel Wikdahl, there were 36 people inside the building at the time of the incident. Some residents were either spontaneously evacuated or assisted by the police. The nearby subway station was temporarily used as a gathering point for evacuees, with several people receiving treatment for smoke inhalation. The city of Stockholm is working to find alternative accommodation for those affected by the fire.

A man in his mid-20s has been arrested on suspicion of arson. The police are conducting an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire, focusing on the circumstances surrounding the suspect's involvement. This incident not only raises concerns about public safety in residential buildings but also emphasizes the swift response required by emergency services in such scenarios.
