Emergency meeting of the Islamic Cooperation Foreign Ministers to discuss Israeli settlement escalation

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation is convening an emergency meeting to address recent Israeli decisions that strengthen settlement in the West Bank.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is set to hold an emergency meeting at the ministerial level on Thursday to discuss Israel's latest decisions which bolster settlement activities and annexation efforts in the West Bank. This meeting was called at the request of the State of Palestine, with the aim of coordinating responses and exploring collaborative efforts to counteract Israeli actions intended to alter the legal, political, and demographic situation of the occupied Palestinian territories while undermining the principle of a two-state solution.

During the anticipated meeting, ministers will deliberate on strategies to respond to the Israeli authorities' decision to initiate annexation procedures for territories in the West Bank, referred to as "State Property" as part of their plans to impose an alleged sovereignty over the occupied lands. This comes against a backdrop of increasing tensions and ongoing disputes surrounding land rights and status in the region.

On February 8, the Israeli government approved a series of decisions aimed at altering the legal and civil reality in the West Bank to enhance its control over the area. These actions have been met with widespread rejection from several Arab and Palestinian entities, who view these developments as paving the way for actual annexation of the occupied Palestinian territories, further complicating the already tense political situation in the region and diminishing hopes for a viable peace process.
