Jeju Island has been recognized as one of the top 25 must-visit destinations for 2026 by the popular travel guidebook Lonely Planet.
Jeju Island, a popular holiday destination in South Korea, has been included in Lonely Planet's list of the top 25 must-visit travel destinations for 2026. Alongside renowned destinations like Réunion Island, Vietnam's Quy Nhơn, Thailand's Phuket, Peru, Finland, and the Solomon Islands, Jeju stands out for its accessibility and diverse outdoor activities. The announcement was made by Lonely Planet, a leading American travel information company that annually recommends travel locations around the world.
In its official announcement, Lonely Planet described Jeju Island as a "paradise for outdoor adventures," stating that it is just over an hour’s flight from Seoul. The guidebook emphasizes various activities such as climbing the 1,947-meter-high Hallasan, diving in the waters around Seogwipo, and exploring the 27 Olle Trail courses. It also suggests visitors explore peripheral islands like Gapado. Cultural sites such as the Arario Museum, which features contemporary art, and the Lee Jung-seop and Waljong Museums that display works by Korean artists are also recommended.
Additionally, Lonely Planet highlights Jeju's culinary scene, specifically recommending dining at beachside restaurants run by haenyeo (female divers) that serve freshly grilled seafood, as well as local delicacies available at Dongmun Market and Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market. This recognition is a significant boost for local tourism, showcasing Jeju as a destination that attracts both international travelers and local visitors alike.
