Exhibition of Family Photos Taken by Megumi Yokota's Father, Shigeru, Starts in Osaka on the 26th

An exhibition showcasing family photographs taken by Shigeru Yokota, father of abductee Megumi Yokota, will open in Osaka on the 26th.

An exhibition titled 'Messages from Megumi and Her Family: The Shigeru Yokota Photo Exhibition' will be held in Osaka, featuring photographs taken by Shigeru Yokota of his daughter Megumi, who was abducted by North Korea, and their family. The exhibition, starting on the 26th of this month at the Osaka Takashimaya, marks its 41st iteration and is the first in the Kansai region in 12 years, running until March 9th. Displayed will be a collection of family photos and panels captured from 1964, the year Megumi was born, until she was kidnapped at the age of 13 in 1977, alongside her clothing, letters, and artwork created by her mother, Sakiye Yokota.

The exhibition is organized by the 'Asagao no Kai,' a support group formed by neighbors of Sakiye Yokota, aimed at raising awareness about the abduction issue. Since 2005, this group has been hosting photo exhibitions both domestically and internationally to communicate the serious nature of the abduction problem. Sakiye Yokota emphasizes the importance of understanding the pain of losing a once-happy family as they examine the photographs, urging visitors to reflect on the impact of such tragedies.

The exhibition will take place in the Grand Hall on the 7th floor of Osaka Takashimaya, with free admission available from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM (last day until 4:30 PM). Additionally, digital signage displaying family messages will be broadcast until February 28th at Namba Station of the Osaka Metro and until March 1st at Nankai Namba Station, enhancing the visibility of their message throughout the city.
