Kakao Mobility exports parking solutions to Saudi smart city 'Diriyah'
Kakao Mobility has signed a contract to supply integrated mobility solutions for the Diriyah project, a major smart city development in Saudi Arabia.
Kakao Mobility, a prominent transportation service in South Korea, recently announced its collaboration with Diriyah Company to export integrated mobility solutions for the development of the Diriyah project, a smart city initiative in Saudi Arabia. This deal, finalized on the 23rd, marks a significant achievement since both parties initially signed a memorandum of understanding last May to jointly develop future mobility services. The first phase of this contract involves installing parking solutions in three major areas within the city's infrastructure that can accommodate approximately 5,000 vehicles.
As part of the project, Kakao Mobility plans to digitize local parking infrastructure and will implement its user interface and operational software from the Kakao T app to provide a comprehensive solution that showcases its technical capabilities. The company is set to conduct a paid pilot operation to test the solutions before expanding its application across the entire Diriyah area, particularly if the initial trials prove successful. Additionally, advanced technologies will be employed to manage vehicle movement efficiently in complex underground spaces, including AI-driven demand forecasting to optimize parking space utilization and indoor navigation capabilities in areas where GPS signals are weak.
Kakao Mobility's CEO, Ryu Geung-seon, expressed optimism regarding the project, emphasizing that a data-driven parking platform is expected to be foundational for supporting future innovations such as autonomous vehicle charging and delivery robot systems. He highlighted the company's aim to showcase its capabilities in physical AI technology to the global market through the success of this project, which is backed by the Saudi Arabian government's Public Investment Fund and encompasses a large-scale urban development spanning 14 square kilometers with an investment of around $63 billion.
