The public participates in education policy making… National Education Commission recruits 300 members for the Public Participation Committee
The National Education Commission of South Korea is publicly recruiting 300 members for its Public Participation Committee to enhance citizen involvement in education policy.
The National Education Commission of South Korea has announced it will be accepting applications for the Public Participation Committee from September 23 to October 15, in an effort to establish educational policies based on social consensus. This committee will act as a vital communication channel between the National Education Commission and the public, with a balanced representation across regions, genders, ages, and professions among its 500 members. The chairperson of this committee will be Lee Kwang-ho, a permanent commissioner of the National Education Commission.
Members of the Public Participation Committee, whose term lasts for two years, will engage in in-depth discussions on significant educational issues. Feedback gathered from these discussions will play a crucial role in the decision-making processes related to the development of long-term educational growth strategies. To support the committee's deliberations, educational opportunities will also be made available to its members, ensuring they are well-equipped to contribute effectively.
Interested individuals aged 16 and above, including students and working professionals, can apply to join the committee, which will primarily operate online on weekday evenings and weekends to accommodate their schedules. The recruitment aims to select over 300 members, and alongside representatives suggested by local governments, those reappointed from the first iteration of the committee will also participate. The National Education Commission plans to announce the final selection results in early April on its official website, following a process that includes public drawing and evaluations.
