Secretary poisoned 90-year-old doctor for over a year to cover up R$ 544,000 embezzlement, says MP
A secretary systematically poisoned a 90-year-old cardiologist for over a year to conceal substantial financial embezzlement.
Dr. Victor Murad, a respected 90-year-old cardiologist from Espírito Santo, Brazil, has been the victim of a systematic poisoning scheme orchestrated by his trusted secretary, Bruna Garcia. Over a span of at least 15 months, she allegedly poisoned him with arsenic while attempting to cover up the embezzlement of over R$ 544,000 from his accounts. This betrayal was particularly grave considering Bruna's longstanding employment since 2013, being the daughter of a former employee who had worked with Murad for two decades. Her close ties allowed her unrestricted access to the doctor’s finances, which he managed without digital tools, making it easier for her to divert funds without detection.
The investigation, led by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Espírito Santo (MP-ES), reveals that the funds she misappropriated over 12 years were utilized to support a lavish lifestyle, including expenses on luxury travel such as trips to Disney. Dr. Murad expressed his heartbreaking realization of the betrayal, reaffirming that he had trusted Bruna completely, which led to his suffering. He described her as charming and deceptive, likening her to a serpent, indicating the depth of the deceit he experienced.
