'The Secret Agent' misses out on the Bafta for Best Foreign Language Film, which goes to 'Sentimental Value'
'The Secret Agent' did not win the Bafta for Best Film Not in the English Language, with the award going to Norway's 'Sentimental Value.'
Brazil's film 'The Secret Agent' was nominated but did not secure the Bafta for Best Film Not in the English Language, an award considered among the most prestigious in British cinema. The winner was Norway's 'Sentimental Value,' a family drama directed by Joachim Trier. Other nominees included 'Sirât' from Spain, the Iranian film 'It Was Just an Accident' representing France, and Tunisia's 'The Voice of Hind Rajab.'
The Brazilian film industry faced a disappointing outcome at the awards ceremony, concluding the event without any trophies. Although director Kleber Mendonça Filho was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay for 'The Secret Agent,' he lost to Ryan Coogler for his work on 'Sinners.' Furthermore, Adolpho Veloso, who earned recognition for his cinematography in 'Train Dreams,' was also left empty-handed as the award went to Michael Bauman for 'One Battle After Another.'
In the documentary category, Petra Costa's 'Apocalypse in the Tropics' was also unable to take home a Bafta, losing to Czech filmmakers Pavel Talankin and David Borenstein for 'Mr. Nobody Against Putin.' These results highlight the competitive nature of the awards and remind us of the challenges faced by international films seeking recognition in an industry dominated by English-language productions.
