The Milano Cortina Winter Olympics will officially conclude on Sunday night with a spectacular closing ceremony at the historic Verona amphitheater. Estonian public broadcaster ERR will provide live coverage starting at 21:30. Commentary will be provided by Tarmo Tiisler and Juhan Kilumets, offering insights into the event and the performances planned for the evening.
During the ceremony, Estonia will be represented by figure skater Niina Petrõkina, who is making her Olympic debut, and speed skater Marten Liiv, who served as a flag bearer at the opening ceremony as well. This year's Olympics continue the trend of using a dual flag bearer system, established by the International Olympic Committee. Petrõkina expressed her excitement and pride in representing Estonia, describing the experience as fulfilling one of her dreams.
The Arena di Verona, where the ceremony is held, is one of the best-preserved ancient amphitheaters in the world, boasting a history that spans two millennia. In recent years, it has become known for hosting an opera festival, melding its rich historical background with contemporary culture. This closing ceremony not only signifies the end of the games but also celebrates the shared spirit and achievements of athletes from around the globe, as well as the host nation of Italy and the region's cultural heritage.
