The reopening of the Stock Exchange opens to the public

A visitor center will open at the Stock Exchange construction site to give the public insight into its restoration after a fire in 2024.

On Thursday, a visitor center will open at the construction site of the Stock Exchange in Copenhagen, allowing the public to observe the ongoing restoration efforts following a devastating fire in 2024. According to Dansk Erhverv, this initiative provides an opportunity for the public to engage with the reconstruction process and delve into the rich 400-year history of the iconic building commissioned by Christian IV. Morten Langager, the director of Dansk Erhverv, emphasized the significance of offering such a close-up view of this important cultural restoration project.

The visitor center will consist of 15 connected containers raised to first-floor height, enabling visitors to overlook the construction site. It will also feature physical displays, including newly carved sandstone figures and 400-year-old lead balls, showcasing artifacts that reflect the historical significance and craftsmanship of the original structure. The center will be open to the public daily, with free admission, inviting citizens and tourists alike to learn more about the architectural heritage of the Stock Exchange.

This project has received substantial support, with a total of 18 million kroner from six major Danish foundations, demonstrating the commitment to preserving Denmark's historical landmarks. The reopening of the Stock Exchange not only embodies a return to normalcy following the fire but also serves as an educational platform, promoting awareness and appreciation for Denmark's rich architectural history among a broader audience.
