French Ski Mountaineers Win Gold After Lighter Medals

The French ski mountaineering duo of Emily Harrop and Thibault Anselmet won a gold medal at the Milano Cortina Olympics in the mixed relay event.

At the Milano Cortina Olympics, the French ski mountaineering duo of Emily Harrop and Thibault Anselmet secured a gold medal in the mixed relay competition, finishing with a time of 26:57.44. Their victory came after both athletes had previously earned silver and bronze medals in the individual events.

During the mixed relay event, competitors had to complete a longer course compared to the individual events, which consisted of a short, approximately three-minute effort. The relay format required the athletes to alternate in a man-woman format, with two laps around a circuit that lasted about seven minutes each. The French team led the race from start to finish but faced a strong challenge from Switzerland right before the final exchange, with the Swiss team ultimately finishing 11.86 seconds behind.

Alongside their gold medal triumph, Harrop and Anselmet also highlighted the competitive spirit of the event by showcasing their endurance and skill. Spain rounded out the podium in third place with Ana Alonso Rodriguez and Oriol Cardona Coll, who faced a small penalty due to an equipment oversight. This performance at the Olympics reflects the growing popularity and competitive nature of ski mountaineering as a sport.
