The innkeeper had to fetch extra chairs and pastries for locals affected by the crisis-ridden ferry: 'It was almost touching'

A community meeting in Feggesund attracted 250 people who expressed their desire to save the struggling ferry service between Mors and Thy in North West Jutland, Denmark.

In Feggesund, Denmark, a significant community meeting took place, drawing 250 residents from Nordmors and Hannæs in the northern part of Thisted Municipality. The unexpectedly high turnout emphasized the deep commitment of local residents to the struggling Feggesund Ferry service. Organizers were caught off guard by the response and needed to procure additional seating and pastries to accommodate everyone. Laila Sølager, a co-organizer and member of the Nordmors Residents' Association, described the turnout as almost touching, highlighting the strong community connection and support for the ferry, which is vital for local transportation.

The future of the Feggesund Ferry is uncertain due to a disagreement between the Thisted Municipality and Morsø regarding the financial responsibility for the service. The Thisted Kommune argues that most passengers using the ferry are from Morsø. In contrast, the passionate turnout at the meeting from both sides of the fjord showed that the ferry is valued not only as a means of transport but also as a symbol of local unity and community. Residents expressed a commitment to work together to advocate for the ferry's importance and the broader potential for tourism linked to it.

Moving forward, two working groups have been established to create awareness of the ferry and engage with local and regional stakeholders about the service. The community is determined to explore the economic potential of enhanced tourism in the area, which the ferry connects. This spirit of collaboration indicates a strong desire to not only sustain the ferry service but also to promote local tourism opportunities, reflecting a forward-thinking attitude in the face of adversity.
