Florida teacher charged for alleged sexual relationship with student who lived with her
A Florida teacher is arrested for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a student who was living in her home after being kicked out of his own house.
Mackenzie McLean, a 49-year-old economics teacher at Crooms Academy in Sanford, Florida, has been charged with engaging in sexual conduct with a male student who had temporarily moved into her home. The student, a senior at the school and a friend of McLean's daughter, allegedly had a series of sexual encounters with the teacher after being evicted from his own residence. Furthermore, it is reported that McLean provided alcohol to the student, which contributed to the inappropriate relationship.
According to the arrest affidavit, the incidents came to light after the student detailed one incident where, during a game night with McLean and her daughter, he was given twelve shots of gin, leading to severe intoxication. After which, McLean is accused of sending her daughter away from the room to engage in sexual activities with the student. These allegations raise serious concerns regarding the teacher's conduct as well as the power dynamics involved in such relationships.
McLean now faces multiple legal charges, including two counts of engaging in a sex offense by an authority figure, and one count of distribution of a controlled substance. This case highlights ongoing challenges in maintaining safe educational environments and the responsibilities of educators in their positions of authority. The implications of this case may extend beyond McLean, affecting policies and scrutiny surrounding teacher-student interactions in schools across the state and potentially the nation.
