The bones of St Francis of Assisi, a revered figure in Christianity and the founder of the Franciscan order, have been put on public display in Italy for the first time, attracting attention from around the world. This significant event, occurring in the Basilica of Saint Francis in his hometown of Assisi, coincides with the 800th anniversary of his death on October 3, 1226. To manage the influx of visitors, 400 volunteers have been called upon to assist with guiding crowds through the medieval city's cobblestone streets to the display. The skeleton is securely housed in a bulletproof glass box, ensuring both preservation and security as people come to pay their respects. Friar Giulio Cesareo, director of the Sacred Convent of St Francis, acknowledges the logistical challenges posed by this endeavor, with a majority of volunteers being Italian but others coming from various countries as well, indicating the global interest in this notable religious event.
