On Saturday, two workers were injured in a landslide at a construction site in São José do Rio Preto, Brazil, related to Santa Casa’s project for building an underground water tank. The incident involved workers aged 39 and 65, who experienced being buried for approximately one hour before being rescued by the local Fire Department using manual excavation tools. They were later taken to Santa Casa for medical treatment.
According to reports from TV TEM, both injured workers are employees of a contracting company engaged in the construction work. The hospital confirmed that they were promptly assisted after being freed from the site. Despite suffering fractures on their limbs, both workers were conscious and able to communicate during the rescue, indicating no life-threatening injuries.
The incident has been reported to the Central de Flagrantes of Rio Preto and categorized as a collapse or landslide case. The local police are now responsible for investigating further and have indicated that a thorough inquiry into the practices at the construction site will take place, raising concerns about workplace safety standards in such projects.
