Monobloco promotes a mix of rhythms on the last day of Carnival in Rio

Monobloco hosts a vibrant Carnival parade in Rio, featuring a blend of rhythms and tributes to renowned musicians.

On the last day of official street Carnival celebrations in Rio de Janeiro, the Monobloco parade brought together a massive crowd of revelers to enjoy an eclectic mix of musical styles. This traditional event, held on the morning of February 22, paid tribute to late Brazilian artists Preta Gil and Arlindo Cruz, both of whom passed away in 2025, showcasing how Carnival blends music, culture, and memory.

The procession featured performances from notable musicians, including Chico Chico, the son of celebrated singer Cássia Eller, who performed on the electric trio, further commemorating his mother who died in 2001. The parade is part of a larger schedule of street events organized by the city’s government, which started on January 17 and included around 460 presentations throughout the city, highlighting the vibrant cultural landscape of Rio during Carnival.

Monobloco, which originated from a percussion workshop in 2000, has become synonymous with innovation in Rio's carnival scene, attracting thousands to its route from Rua Primeiro de Março to Avenida Presidente Antônio Carlos. This event exemplifies the city’s rich cultural heritage and the joyful spirit of Carnival, as it encourages participation and community engagement through music and celebration.
