Expecting agreements to be reached soon and advertising for staff
Kristján Jón Jónatansson, director of Klíníkan, anticipates reaching a cooperation agreement with health authorities for accepting patients awaiting nursing space at Landspítalinn.
Kristján Jón Jónatansson, the director of Klíníkan, has expressed optimism that a cooperation agreement with health authorities will be finalized in the coming days, allowing for the reception of patients who are currently on waiting lists for nursing homes at Landspítalinn. This initiative comes in response to a prolonged emergency situation at Landspítalinn, where a significant number of patients, up to 120 at times, have been hospitalized while awaiting nursing space.
The necessity for such an agreement has become apparent due to the so-called overflow issue at Landspítalinn, which has persisted for nearly a year and a half. This has put immense pressure on the hospital and its resources, compelling the management at Klíníkan to proactively seek healthcare staff to facilitate this new arrangement. An advertisement for staff has already been issued, reflecting their readiness and the enthusiasm observed within the healthcare community for this project.
As discussions between the health ministry, Landspítalinn, and Klíníkan are ongoing, this cooperation could potentially alleviate some of the strain on the public hospital system and improve patient care by ensuring that those waiting for nursing accommodation receive timely attention. The anticipated agreements signal a significant step towards addressing the existing healthcare challenges in Iceland, especially regarding nursing capacity and patient management.
