The hospital ships praised by Trump are not headed to Greenland – they are in dry dock
Donald Trump claimed on social media that a hospital ship would be sent to Greenland, but both US hospital ships are currently undergoing maintenance and not en route to any location.
In a recent post on Truth Social, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the deployment of a hospital ship to Greenland, stating that it would help care for many 'sick' individuals in the area. However, the specifics of what Trump was referring to remain unclear, and it appears he may have misled his followers about the ship's actual status and location. Greenland, which is an autonomous territory of Denmark, has not raised any concerns regarding the care of sick individuals, making Trump's claims even more perplexing.
The United States operates two hospital ships, the USNS Mercy and the USNS Comfort. Trump's comments suggested that one of these ships was already on its way to Greenland, but public records indicate otherwise. Both vessels are currently in maintenance and will remain so for several months. The USNS Comfort is currently undergoing a 102-day repair process in Alabama, scheduled to be completed by the end of April, according to reports from military-focused publications and the U.S. Department of Defense.
This situation not only highlights the ongoing debate over the reliability of information shared by public officials but also raises questions about the appropriateness and implications of such statements about military resources and healthcare in regions like Greenland. As Trump continues to make claims that seem disconnected from reality, it's essential for the public to critically assess these declarations and understand the actual state of affairs.
