WhatsApp launches 'Message History' feature for new group members

WhatsApp has introduced a new 'Group Message History' feature to help new members catch up on conversations in groups they join.

WhatsApp, a platform owned by Meta, has launched its new 'Group Message History' feature, which is designed to address user demands for better integration of new members into existing group chats. Previously, new members had to guess the context or request summaries from existing participants, leading to potential misunderstandings. This new feature aims to streamline the onboarding process for new group members, allowing them to access previous messages immediately upon joining.

The feature works by enabling group admins or members to share context about conversations as soon as a new member is added. Rather than starting from scratch, newcomers will be able to read the messages exchanged prior to their arrival. According to reports from WABetaInfo, users can select the number of past messages they wish to share with new additions—options include sharing 25, 50, 75, or even up to 100 of the most recent messages from the past two weeks. This functionality is aimed at making group chats more user-friendly and inclusive.

WhatsApp's Help Center has clarified that the option to share the message history will only appear when selecting a contact to add to a group. This adjustment reflects WhatsApp's responsiveness to user feedback and highlights the platform's ongoing efforts to enhance the user experience in group chats, reinforcing its commitment to adapting to the needs of its global audience.
