'Shoot me, but…': A statement from the disciple of Avimukteshwaranand on the FIR of sexual assault
The disciple of Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand, Mukundanand, has responded to allegations of sexual assault, stating that the accusations are baseless and that the accuser has a history of criminal behavior.
In the wake of a First Information Report (FIR) filed against both Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand and his disciple Mukundanand for sexual assault, Mukundanand has publicly defended their reputation. He emphatically stated, 'Shoot me, but do not label such hideous accusations against us', asserting that the Shankaracharya is character-verified and as honest as crystal. According to him, the person leveling the accusations, Ashutosh, has a criminal record with a history sheet number of 76A, indicating a pattern of making false claims to extort others.
This legal turmoil originated from allegations surrounding the sexual exploitation of students at the Vidya Math Ashram in Varanasi. Following a court directive, the police filed the FIRs against Avimukteshwaranand and Mukundanand in Prayagraj as part of the investigation into these serious charges. During a special conversation with Aaj Tak, Mukundanand insisted that all the charges against them are unfounded and expressed his confidence in the integrity of Avimukteshwaranand.
The historical significance of this case not only links to the sacred traditions within Indian spirituality but also raises concerns over the role of authority figures within religious teachings. The unfolding events have prompted discussions about accountability, the potential misuse of the legal system for personal vendettas, and the broader implications for victims of genuine sexual abuse in similar contexts.
