Former customs chief D. Žvironas, driving under the influence, has filed an appeal
D. Žvironas, the former customs chief, has filed an appeal against the court's ruling regarding his DUI charge.
On February 10, an appeal was received and sent to the appellate court concerning D. Žvironas, who is contesting a previous ruling by the Vilnius City District Court. He requests the court to annul the decision regarding his administrative offense and to terminate the proceedings. If the higher court determines that the proceedings cannot be terminated, he asks for the initially contested ruling to be revoked and the case to be reconsidered.
The district court had previously examined D. Žvironas's complaint against a decision made by the Vilnius County Chief Police Department last October, which penalized him for driving under the influence. As a consequence of this ruling, the police imposed a fine of €850 and revoked his driving license for one year. D. Žvironas claims that the decision was unjust and illegal due to significant violations of the Code of Administrative Offenses and other legal acts during both the investigation and court proceedings, which he argues directly impacted the legality of the decision and the validity of the findings made.
This case highlights the ongoing legal challenges faced by individuals in positions of authority when confronting violations of the law, particularly in cases involving public safety such as DUI charges. The outcome of this appeal could set a precedent for how similar cases are handled in Lithuania, particularly regarding procedural compliance and the rights of defendants in administrative procedures.
