The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially rejected and condemned the ultimatums from the governments of Hungary and Slovakia regarding energy supply negotiations. In its statement, Ukraine highlighted that such actions come in the midst of massive and targeted Russian attacks on its energy infrastructure, which aim to deprive Ukrainians of electricity, heating, and gas during extremely low temperatures. The ministry described these ultimatums as provocative and irresponsible, also stressing that they threaten the energy security of the entire region.

Ukrainian officials accuse both Hungary and Slovakia of playing into the hands of the aggressor, implying that their actions are detrimental not only to Ukraine but also to their own energy firms that operate on commercial terms. The statements from Ukraine suggest that the positions held by Hungary and Slovakia not only undermine regional solidarity but also align with Russia's strategy to weaken Ukraine during the ongoing conflict.

In response to these tensions, Hungary has declared plans to block a substantial European Union aid package for Ukraine, which includes a €90 billion loan. Slovakia has threatened to halt electricity supplies to Ukraine unless their demands for the resumption of oil deliveries through pipelines are met. These developments indicate a growing strain in relations as both countries demand concessions from Ukraine while the latter faces an ongoing crisis due to aggressive Russian military actions.
