Now is the time to clean your phone - here's how
A Finnish health expert warns that phones can harbor more bacteria than toilet door handles, urging proper cleaning habits.
Jesse Kieksi, a sales department head at DNA, warns that without proper cleaning, phones can quickly turn from a gadget to a hotspot for germs. In fact, research shows that mobile phones can have more bacteria than the handles of toilet doors. Despite this concerning fact, Kieksi points out that very few people take the time to thoroughly clean their devices, which can lead to hygiene risks in daily use.
To improve hygiene, Kieksi advises that hand hygiene is critical, as bacteria and viruses typically transfer to the phone's surface through hands. He recommends daily cleaning of the phone screen with a microfiber cloth, with a more detailed cleaning once a week. He also suggests using a wet cloth designed for touch screens occasionally and recommends using disinfectant cloths a couple of times a week, while cautioning against soaking the device in any way.
Moreover, many users have phone cases, which should also be cleaned regularly. Kieksi advises removing the case to clean the debris that accumulates between the case and the phone itself. Such habits not only protect the device in the long term but also help maintain personal hygiene, making it an essential practice in today’s tech-heavy lifestyle.
