"Have never produced so much snow" - record production at Lugnet
Lugnet is experiencing record snow production ahead of the World Ski Championships, with excellent conditions for snowmaking noted by the facility's manager.
Lugnet, a ski facility in Sweden, is witnessing unprecedented levels of snow production, points out facility manager Jonas Boström. With the pre-World Championship event set to commence on February 28, 2024, Boström emphasizes the importance of sustaining cold temperatures and snow production for the upcoming winter season. He notes that the current snowmaking conditions are better than ever, indicating a strong preparation for the events ahead.
Comparing this year’s snow availability with that of the 2015 World Championships, significant differences emerge. In 2015, all of the snow was produced during the same season and was laid directly onto the courses, resulting in a lack of stored snow. This year, however, advanced preparation and snowfall consistency seem to be firmly in place, reflecting a learning curve in the management of winter sports facilities.
The overall sentiment among the organizers is optimistic, with the emphasis on the sustainability of snow production leading into the 2027 Ski World Championships in Falun. This proactive approach may not only enhance the experience for athletes but also contribute to the long-term viability and resilience of the sport amid changing climatic conditions.
