A trailer carrying 74 cattle overturned on BR-365 near the district of Barra do Guaicuí in Várzea da Palma this Saturday, leading to significant disruption. According to the Federal Highway Police, the driver lost control at kilometer marker 140, causing the vehicle to tip over and block the highway in both directions for approximately seven hours. Fortunately, the driver was unharmed in the incident.

Following the accident, reports indicate that 39 cattle were stolen by onlookers and drivers passing by the scene, amidst a mix of both dead and alive animals. The driver additionally reported that even the vehicle's tachograph was taken during the chaos. The remaining 35 cattle were transported to a nearby farm shortly after the incident. As of the report's closure, no arrests had been made concerning the thefts or the accident itself.

The trailer was on its way from Santa Rita de Cássia in Bahia to São Paulo when the accident occurred around 8 a.m., which resulted in a complete blockage of traffic until early afternoon. This incident highlights issues related to road safety and theft during emergencies, showcasing the vulnerabilities along major transportation routes in Brazil.
