The court hearing concerning the tragic death of 38-year-old cyclist Thalita Danielle Hoshino began in the Peruíbe Forum, located on the coast of São Paulo. The accused, Rudney Gomes Rodrigues, a 31-year-old cart driver, faces charges of running over and killing Hoshino. The initial session commenced on Friday, with further proceedings expected on Monday, and the trial is scheduled for April 13, 2026. The accident that led to Hoshino's death occurred on February 23, 2025, while she was cycling on the beach with a friend. The tragedy unfolded when she was struck by a cart close to Avenida Santa Cruz in Itanhaém. Emergency services transported her to Hospital Irmã Dulce after she suffered a traumatic brain injury, but unfortunately, despite receiving medical attention, she could not survive her injuries. The case has drawn attention to issues surrounding safety and accountability for road users in Brazil, highlighting the pressing need for more stringent regulations regarding the use of carts in areas shared with cyclists and pedestrians.
