Youth Council in Bauska District Plans Annual Events
The Youth Council in Bauska district is planning various activities, including a youth festival and sports activities based on the interests of local young people.
In Bauska district, the Youth Council held a meeting with 13 young representatives to outline their annual work plan and set priorities for the year ahead. One of the prominent projects from the previous year focused on engaging children and youth in the electoral process, allowing them to vote on issues that matter to them alongside their parents during serious elections. This year, the council plans to host a youth festival and sports activities that were voted on last year, emphasizing the participation of local youth in community events.
Council member TΔ«na Tikuma, who leads the Youth Department, stated that young people will also be involved in organizing district celebrations, which includes designing a youth quarter and hosting a sports festival. Every young council member has specific objectives they aim to achieve, reflecting their commitment to making their voices heard. Elizabete Megi, an 11th-grade student, expressed a desire to encourage greater involvement and representation of youth, stressing the importance of their opinions being taken seriously rather than remaining silent.
This initiative showcases a proactive approach to youth engagement in local governance and community activities, fostering a sense of responsibility and encouraging young individuals to make their aspirations known. The plans for this year indicate that the council is not only concerned about giving a voice to the youth but also about actively involving them in both decision-making and celebration of their contributions to society.
