On the evening of February 14, a couple's romantic getaway near Augustów in the Podlaskie Voivodeship of Poland ended in tragedy when 27-year-old Karolina was found unresponsive in a hot tub. Reports indicate that her boyfriend, aged 35, had gone to sleep while Karolina remained in the hot tub. Upon waking up, he was shocked to discover her floating in the water without any signs of life. He rushed to her aid and attempted to revive her, but despite his efforts, it was too late.

Investigators have determined that the cause of death was drowning, but the precise circumstances leading to her drowning are still unclear. The boyfriend was initially detained for questioning as a witness but was later released and sent home. Following the incident, concern arose in the community as reports surfaced alleging that Michał Ż., a well-known photographer in the region and Karolina's partner, may have a history of harming other women.
