Alev and Himma made a powerful run in the ski marathon: I don’t remember the final lap
Alvar Johannes Alev and Martin Himma achieved their career-best results at the Olympics in the Individual Ski Marathon event, with Alev finishing 15th and Himma 29th.
In the recent ski marathon held at the Milano Cortina Olympics, Estonian skiers Alvar Johannes Alev and Martin Himma showcased remarkable performances. Allev secured 15th place in the 50 km classical race, while Himma placed 29th. Alev maintained a position among the top 20 competitors for much of the race, but in the final lap, he felt overwhelmed but managed to dig deep and finish with a commendable rank.
After the race, Alev expressed his emotional victory, noting that he spent several frustrating minutes after crossing the finish line trying to recollect the final lap. He shared feelings of relief and triumph, mentioning that the years of hard work and dedication he put into his training and preparation had finally paid off. His performance was not only a personal milestone but also a proud moment for Estonian skiing at a prestigious international competition.
This achievement in the ski marathon represents a significant highlight for Alev in what he described as a rigorous and challenging event. The intense competition saw him complete the distance with substantial effort, ultimately closing the gap to the winner, Johannes Hösflot Klæbo, by just over eight minutes.
