Jordan condemns Ambassador Huckabee's statements as an 'infringement on the sovereignty of the region's countries'
Jordan has condemned U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee's remarks, perceiving them as a violation of regional sovereignty and international law.
The Jordanian Foreign Ministry has expressed condemnation of U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee's recent comments suggesting that it would be acceptable for Israel to have control over the entire Middle East, including the West Bank. Spokesman Fouad Majali described Huckabee's statements as 'absurd and provocative', highlighting that they represent a violation of diplomatic norms and infringe upon the sovereignty of regional states. The ministry emphasizes that such statements are inconsistent with international law and contravene the United Nations Charter.
Majali pointed out that Huckabee's remarks contradict the stated stance of U.S. President Donald Trump, who had previously rejected the idea of annexing the occupied West Bank. The ongoing occupation of territories including East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip is characterized by Jordan as a violation of Palestinian rights under international law. The official reiterated that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on international law and the two-state solution is essential for achieving a just and comprehensive peace.
Jordan's foreign ministry's denunciation reflects the country's significant role in regional diplomacy, particularly regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Majali stressed the necessity of collective efforts to stabilize Gaza and implement the U.S. President's plan and Security Council Resolution 2803, rather than making irresponsible and incendiary statements. This diplomatic stance illustrates Jordan's commitment to international legality and regional stability amidst ongoing tensions in the area.
