Shin Young-ja, the daughter of the late founder of Lotte Group, Shin Gi-rae, has passed away at the age of 85.
Shin Young-ja, the daughter of late Shin Gi-rae, the founder of Lotte Group, passed away on the 21st at the age of 85. Born in 1942, she played a crucial role in the early growth of Lotte's retail business, particularly contributing to the ascendance of Lotte Hotel, Lotte Department Store, and Lotte Duty-Free Shop in the industry. After stepping down as the CEO of Lotte Shopping in 2012, Shin Young-ja distanced herself from the management of Lotte Group to focus on charitable activities. She became the first chairperson of Lotte Samdong Welfare Foundation in 2009 and continued to serve as chairperson for both Lotte Scholarship Foundation and Lotte Welfare Foundation, taking on leadership roles in these organizations. Her funeral is taking place at the Severance Hospital in Sinchon, Seoul, and will be held for three days under the name 'Lotte Foundation Chair', with her eldest daughter, Jang Hye-sun, chairing the ceremony. The burial is scheduled for the morning of the 23rd at 9:20 AM.
