15-year-old died in sledding accident - reportedly used a type of foil
A 15-year-old boy tragically died in a sledding accident in Biri, Norway, during a school activity just before winter break.
On Friday afternoon, a 15-year-old boy lost his life in a sledding accident in Biri, Gjøvik municipality, while participating in a school event on the last day before winter break. The accident took place with over a hundred students in attendance, as reported by police attorney Julie Dalsveen. Preliminary information suggests that a group of ten teenagers were sledding together on a type of sled that was different from the usual sleds, which led to a tragic outcome.
The sledding involved a type of foil, and as the speed increased, the group was unable to stop at the end of the field, resulting in the deceased colliding with several smaller trees in the terrain. Despite attempts at life-saving first aid, the boy could not be revived and was declared dead at the scene. This incident marked what was supposed to be a festive sledding day before the winter holidays, with local church official Ole Jacob Nyhus expressing the horror of the situation, describing it as completely devastating.
The event has shaken the community, especially since several other teenagers witnessed the tragedy. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident, focusing on the safety measures in place during the activity and the type of sled used. With such incidents impacting young lives and their peers, the need for thorough inquiries and discussions on safety in school activities becomes even more critical.
