China continues to strengthen its military influence in Asia through the provision of advanced armored vehicles to countries in the region. The latest example comes from Bangladesh, which has received a new batch of VT-5 light tanks manufactured in Beijing, adding to an already existing fleet of 44 vehicles. These tanks, also known as Type 15 in their export version, combine high mobility and firepower thanks to a 105 mm cannon that can engage modern armored targets. The choice to invest in light tanks reflects a necessity to operate in challenging terrains where heavier vehicles face mobility or logistical issues, such as flood-prone areas, soft ground, or regions with limited infrastructure.
