On Friday evening, a medal celebration was held in Livigno for Henry Sildaru, who won a silver medal in the men's freestyle skiing event at the Milano Cortina Olympics. The event was quickly organized and saw the participation of around thirty Estonians, showing strong community support for the young athlete. Sildaru arrived at the venue with the Estonian flag draped over his shoulders and proudly displayed his silver medal around his neck. In his speech, his coach and father, Tõnis Sildaru, expressed gratitude for the support received, saying, "It's great that so many people have come here to celebrate. We had a good feeling in the autumn that things would go well, and while we hadn't clearly dreamed of a medal, we've achieved it. Thank you all." This reflects the immense spirit and enthusiasm surrounding the athlete's achievement. During the final of the event, Sildaru initially fell in the first run but made a strong comeback in the second with a score of 92.75, securing the lead before the final round. In the decisive third run, he earned a score of 93.00, just 0.75 points shy of the gold medal won by USA's Alex Ferreira, who scored 93.75. This close finish marks a significant achievement for Sildaru, highlighting his potential for future competitions.
