Every artist is in some box. How to get rid of it? Is it even possible? asks a new exhibition
A new exhibition in Hradec Králové explores the categorization of art and its implications.
The exhibition titled "Czech Art of the 20th Century and Its Boxes" aims to dissect the ways in which art is categorized, as many classifications such as symbolism, cubism, surrealism, and generational labels often limit our understanding of the artist's work. Curator Tomáš Kolich, alongside curator Petra Příkazská, expresses that while categorization is common in the art world based on region, period, or style, it is also possible to categorize art by color or size. Instead of attempting to eliminate these boxes, the exhibition seeks to highlight the meanings associated with them, providing visitors with a broader context to appreciate Czech art from the 20th century.
