A Bangladeshi woman has been arrested in Gunma Prefecture on suspicion of murdering her one-month-old son.

On the 21st, the Gunma Prefectural Police arrested 35-year-old Akhtar Runa, a Bangladeshi national, on suspicion of murdering her one-month-old son, Hossain Ali Fahad. The police reported that Runa admitted to the accusation through an interpreter, indicating she had intended to kill her child. The incident took place between 7 AM and 12:50 PM on the 20th, during which Runa allegedly assaulted her son by submerging him in water at their home, leading to his death, which was confirmed at the hospital where he was transported.

Runa lived with her husband and two other children, a son and a daughter under ten years old. At the time of the incident, her husband and the siblings were reportedly out of the house. The police received an emergency call from a man claiming to be Runa's husband, who reported a child in cardiac arrest needing urgent medical assistance. Notably, prior to this event, there had been no indications of child abuse or similar concerns reported to the authorities regarding this family. An autopsy is set to be conducted to determine the cause of death, and the police are investigating the motive and methods used in the alleged crime.
