Notice of 2 Crore Issued by Tax Department to a Person Earning 6000

A young man from Siddharthnagar, Uttar Pradesh, shocked by a GST notice demanding nearly 2 crores in tax despite having a meager salary.

In a shocking incident from Siddharthnagar district of Uttar Pradesh, a young man named Om Prakash Verma has received a notice from the GST department demanding a tax payment of nearly 2 crore rupees. Om Prakash, who earns only around 6,000 to 7,000 rupees a month as a private teacher, is bewildered and distressed by this notice, which he received via post on February 10. He asserts that he is being wrongly targeted and cannot fathom why such a hefty notice would be issued against him for taxes he is not liable to pay.

Upon receiving the notice, Om Prakash reported the matter to the Dumariyaganj police station, hoping for clarity and assistance regarding the situation. In an effort to understand the issue further, he contacted the central office of the sales tax department, where he discovered that his PAN card had been misused by someone else. This fraudulent activity supposedly involved transactions and tax liabilities in New Delhi and Farrukhabad, areas far from where Om Prakash lives and works.

The case raises important questions about the security of personal information, especially concerning PAN cards, which are critical for tax-related transactions in India. It highlights the potential for identity theft and the burden it can impose on innocent individuals when their credentials are compromised. As Om Prakash seeks resolution, the incident underlines the need for stricter safeguards and more robust processes within government departments to prevent such occurrences in the future.
