Actions flag more than 400 thousand liters of stolen water in clandestine cisterns

Coordinated efforts have uncovered illegal water theft operations in Cabo Frio and São Pedro da Aldeia, resulting in the dismantling of clandestine structures holding over 400,000 liters of stolen water.

Coordinated actions between Prolagos, the State Institute of the Environment (Inea), and the Military Police have led to the disbanding of illegal water theft operations in the municipalities of Cabo Frio and São Pedro da Aldeia this year. Authorities have uncovered clandestine structures capable of storing over 400,000 liters of water that was illegally diverted from the public supply network. The operations are part of an ongoing crackdown on water theft, which significantly impacts local water supply and infrastructure.

During one significant inspection in the Parque Eldorado 3 neighborhood, the enforcement teams identified a major irregularity. Fifteen illegal connections were dismantled, which had been diverting water to a clandestine cistern with a capacity of about 240,000 liters. This site served as an illegal central point for supplying water to irregular water trucks, thus posing further challenges to regulatory efforts aimed at ensuring adequate water distribution.

In another operation in São Pedro da Aldeia's Porto do Carro neighborhood, the teams worked with police to dismantle five more illegal connections. This coordinated law enforcement initiative highlights the ongoing challenge of water theft in the region, as authorities strive to protect local water resources and maintain fair access to essential services for the community. The implications of such operations extend beyond immediate legal concerns, underscoring the importance of sustainable water management in areas affected by irregular practices.
