A Delhi Police Constable Commits Suicide in Bagpat, Shoots Himself with Licensed Pistol

A 30-year-old Delhi Police constable, identified as Piyush, committed suicide by shooting himself with his service pistol in Bagpat, India.

In a tragic incident in the Doghat area of Bagpat district, a 30-year-old constable of the Delhi Police named Piyush killed himself using his service pistol. According to a police officer, Piyush was a resident of Ajampur Mulsam and had been appointed under the compassionate appointment scheme after the death of his father in 2018-2019. He was unmarried, and his elder brother is employed abroad. Family members reported that Piyush had returned to his village on Friday and shot himself at his home later that evening.

After the shooting, Piyush was rushed to a private hospital in Badaut by his family, but due to his critical condition, he was referred to a higher center. Unfortunately, doctors at the district hospital pronounced him dead upon arrival. Local police, led by SHO Surya Deep Singh, have seized the service pistol found at the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, which raises concerns about the mental health challenges faced by police personnel.

Neighbors of the deceased have expressed shock at the event, indicating that it was unexpected for someone like Piyush, who was known in the community. This incident highlights the increasing number of mental health issues among service members, calling for greater support and resources for those in high-stress occupations like law enforcement.
