Chinese tourists caught for illegal drone flying in Svolvær

Two Chinese tourists were apprehended by police in Svolvær, Norway, for flying drones in a no-fly zone.

Police in Lofoten responded to tips about possible illegal drone activity in central Svolvær. Upon investigation, they discovered two Chinese tourists operating drones within a restricted airspace. The police quickly intervened and seized the drones, acting on the violation of the no-fly zone regulations.

The tourists were observed by law enforcement while controlling their drones in the prohibited area. Following their apprehension, the two individuals were interrogated by the police, leading to the establishment of a criminal case against them. As a result of the case, the tourists may face a fine, and given the circumstances, this could also lead to their expulsion from Norway, as indicated by operations leader May Wenche Hansen of the Nordland police district.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges authorities face regarding foreign tourists' compliance with local laws, particularly in sensitive areas. The strict enforcement of no-fly zones is critical for ensuring public safety and protecting sensitive environments, especially in popular tourist destinations like Svolvær in Norway's Lofoten region.
