In 2025, energy theft incidents recorded in Limeira, São Paulo, were severe enough to supply electricity for approximately 6,000 homes for a month, as reported by Neoenergia Elektro. The company indicated that their operations to combat energy theft resulted in the recovery of 1.2 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) throughout the year. More than 300 irregularities were documented in the central region, the Rubi neighborhood, and rural areas of the municipality.
Neoenergia Elektro has implemented high-tech measures to track energy losses, including the installation of intelligent sensors in strategic locations to monitor the energy balance within its network. These efforts are complemented by collaboration with local law enforcement, including the Civil Police and Military Police, as well as the Institute of Criminalistics. The company’s proactive approach reflects an increasing awareness and response to energy theft, which poses risks not only to service providers but also potentially affects the community's access to reliable energy.
One notable strategy adopted by Neoenergia is network shielding, which involves implementing new network standards and replacing existing infrastructure where necessary to prevent theft effectively. This innovative response to theft shows the company’s commitment to reducing losses and ensuring that energy distribution is reliable for all users, ultimately benefiting the local economy and improving service quality.
