PT Goes to TSE Against Flávio and PL for AI-Critical Posts About Pro-Lula Parade

The PT party has filed a complaint with the TSE against Flávio Bolsonaro and the PL for using AI-generated videos to criticize a pro-Lula parade during Carnival in Rio.

The Workers' Party (PT), along with partners PV and PCdoB, has initiated administrative action before Brazil's Superior Electoral Court (TSE) against Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) and other members of the Liberal Party (PL). The complaint centers on videos that leveraged artificial intelligence to display critical content aimed at a recent parade that celebrated President Lula during Rio's Carnival. The Federation Brasil Da Esperança, which encompasses the aforementioned parties, dated the posting of these videos as an act of early negative electoral campaigning and has demanded that the content be taken down.

The AI-generated visuals used in the videos presented images of President Lula and his wife, Janja, clad in prison attire within a jail setting, accompanied by derogatory captions such as "Luladrão" (a play on the words 'Lula' and 'thief'). These posts sparked significant controversy, as they were shared not only by Flávio Bolsonaro and the official PL profile but also by fellow party representatives Bia Kicis and Marcos Rogério, signaling a deliberate effort to undermine the image of Lula in the midst of public festivities celebrating him.

According to the PT, the usage of manipulated imagery on social networks represents an infringement of electoral norms, pointing to the intention behind the posts as part of a coordinated strategy to disqualify Lula before the election period. This action reflects ongoing tensions in Brazilian politics, as parties and candidates navigate the ethical boundaries of digital campaigning and the implications of misinformation, especially in a landscape increasingly dominated by AI technologies.
