Chancellor Friedrich Merz has secured his position as president of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in Germany, receiving an overwhelming 91% of the votes at a party conference held in Stuttgart. Out of 1,001 delegates, 963 valid votes were counted, with 878 in favor of Merz, marking a slight decrease from his previous electoral results. In his first election in 2022, he achieved 95% of the votes, and in 2024, he was re-elected with 89.8%. Merz expressed gratitude to the delegates for their 'immense trust' and dedicated a floral tribute he received to his wife, Charlotte.
