At least four people died and 17 were injured when a gas truck overturned and exploded in Santiago, Chile.

A tragic incident occurred in the northern region of Santiago, Chile, where a gas truck overturned and exploded, leading to the deaths of at least four individuals and injuries to 17 others. The local police chief reported that the driver, who was among the deceased, lost control of the vehicle which was transporting liquefied petroleum gas. The incident took place in the commune of Renca, close to an industrial area, and has prompted an investigation by the Public Ministry to determine the precise causes of the accident.

Videos circulated on social media captured the fiery explosion, which reportedly was felt within a radius of 150 to 200 meters, damaging approximately 50 vehicles in the vicinity. Emergency services responded promptly to the scene, highlighting the chaos and destruction caused by the blast. The truck belonged to a local gas company named Gasco, which has not yet provided a public response to media inquiries regarding the incident.

Chilean President Gabriel Boric expressed his condolences to the families affected by this tragic event, noting that debris from the explosion also impacted three commercial establishments. Fortunately, there have been no reports of major structural damage, although the repercussions of the explosion are ongoing as authorities continue with their investigations and assess public safety in the area.
