Tinubu calls for orderly conduct as FCT, Rivers, Kano vote Saturday
President Bola Tinubu has urged for peaceful and orderly elections in the Federal Capital Territory, Rivers, and Kano states, emphasizing the importance of calm and respect.
President Bola Tinubu has made a plea for appropriate conduct from voters, security personnel, and Independent National Electoral Commission officials ahead of the upcoming elections in the Federal Capital Territory, Rivers, and Kano on February 21, 2026. The President’s appeal follows the recent signing of the Electoral Act 2026, which is aimed at guiding the electoral process and enhancing integrity within the Nigerian democratic framework. Tinubu’s call is a response to the heightened need for a peaceful electoral environment, particularly after past elections had been marred by violence and irregularities.
In his statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu underscored the duty of eligible voters to participate actively in the voting process without any fear of reprisals. The President emphasized that a healthy democracy insists on an environment filled with tolerance, calmness, and mutual respect, making it vital for all stakeholders, including political party members, candidates, and supporters, to avoid provoking violence or making incendiary remarks that could compromise the integrity of the elections.
Furthermore, Tinubu highlighted the importance of the presence of security personnel at the polling stations to ensure the safety of voters and maintain order. The President warned against any behavior that could intimidate voters and undermine trust in the electoral process, urging all parties involved to uphold a standard of respect and civility to facilitate a credible election. As the elections approach, his call serves as a crucial reminder of the values necessary for a successful democratic exercise in Nigeria.
