The US Supreme Court has declared Donald Trump’s trade tariffs, imposed last year without the approval of Congress, to be invalid. According to reports from Reuters, the Court asserted that Trump misinterpreted the law that he claimed permitted him to act unilaterally in trade matters. Specifically, Trump had invoked the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) of 1977, arguing that he was acting in response to a supposed national emergency. However, the Court found that this act does not grant him the authority to impose tariffs.
