Operation Hidden Carbon 86: police requests early sale of gas stations, planes, and other assets seized in investigation
The Piauí Civil Police is seeking to sell assets seized during Operation Hidden Carbon 86, which investigates a R$ 5 billion money laundering scheme linked to a criminal faction.
The Civil Police of Piauí announced their intention to request the early sale of seized assets from Operation Hidden Carbon 86, which are believed to include interdict gas stations, two airplanes, and luxury vehicles. Approximately R$ 5 million has already been blocked from the accounts of those involved in the investigation. This operation is a significant initiative focusing on dismantling extensive money laundering operations associated with the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC), a well-known criminal organization in Brazil.
Launched in November 2025, Operation Hidden Carbon 86 targets a money laundering scheme estimated at R$ 5 billion, affecting multiple entities such as gas stations from two different chains, shell companies, and investment funds spread across the states of Piauí, Maranhão, and Tocantins. The investigation has revealed critical involvement from business figures including Haran Santhiago Girão Sampaio and Danillo Coelho de Sousa. This operation represents a collaborative effort between various law enforcement units as they strive to eradicate the financial networks that sustain criminal activities in the region.
In a recent interview, the general delegate of the Civil Police of Piauí, Luccy Keiko, emphasized the formation of a specialized department to address asset recovery, aiming to streamline processes related to the sale of confiscated assets. This proactive approach reflects the judicial system's commitment to not only penalizing crime but also reclaiming illicitly obtained assets and preventing their re-integration into the criminal economy. Such measures can significantly impact the financial stability of organized crime in Brazil, showcasing law enforcement's dedication to weakening criminal enterprises through financial disruption.
