Civil police received R$ 1 thousand to prevent the closure of an irregular bar in the interior of SP, says PM
Civil police officers in Ribeirão Preto were convicted for using an official vehicle off-duty and attempting to hinder an inspection at a local bar, revealing they accepted bribes to prevent its closure.
In Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, two civil police officers were convicted for misconduct involving the use of an official vehicle outside work hours to obstruct inspections on a local bar that was operating illegally. According to testimonies, these officers received R$ 1,000 each to avoid the bar's closure, highlighting significant corruption within local law enforcement.
The allegations were brought to light by Francisco Carlos Wohnrath Monteiro, a former lieutenant of the Military Police who was involved in the inspections. He detailed a disturbing conversation with one of the involved officers, where they acknowledged accepting bribes from the bar owner to avoid regulatory actions. Such interactions demonstrate the deep-seated issues of corruption affecting the enforcement of local laws and public safety.
The two convicted officers, Joas Schneider de Mattos and Alexandro Gomes Ângulo, have lost their jobs due to their involvement in this scandal. The case emphasizes the ongoing struggle against corruption in Brazil, particularly within the police force, raising questions about accountability and the effectiveness of regulations designed to maintain public safety and legal order in the community.
